RE: It's offical, Spring is here in Anchorage!

We were in the Itasca Suncruiser Class A with a platform on the back wrapped in a blue tarp and we were in the hookups on the bike path. Spot R84 to be exact. Seward was busy this weekend. Don't think there will much chance of getting hookups along the water soon, at least not if it is on a Friday :(
Ok. I think I remember seeing you. We wont get to go back out again until Memorial Day weekend. We are going to Williwaw with several people from dh's work.

RE: RV Wholesalers vs the local guy

We bought our Heartland Big Horn from RV Captial Wholesalers. We have been very happy with our deal. We had it delivered from Ind. to AK and still got it for about $15000 cheaper than if we would have bought it up here in Alaska.

RE: Teklanika compground at Denali ice bound

Here is the reply I received back from Denali Nat'l park about Teklanika Campground.
Hello -
Thanks for your email. We're fairly confident that, by July, the campground will be in good shape. It has already started melting out with some (finally, and very welcome) warmer temperatures, and I could see the campground being ready before July - but to err on the safe side, we're allowing reservations made July 1 and onward to stand / be accepted, but make no promises for dates prior to July 1. So it sounds like you're in luck!
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
All the best,
Alex Lindeman

That is what I was thinking too. I sent them an email to see what I could find out. I will post here when I do find out something.

RE: Teklanika compground at Denali ice bound

I have July 4 reservations. I not a letter saying if TEK was not avaible they would put me in Riley. The letter said that the ice would not melt until late June or LATER.
When did you get your letter. We are supposed to be there the same time and have not heard anything. You would think they would have something on the news here in Alaska at least.

RE: It's offical, Spring is here in Anchorage!

Yeah that was us. Where were you set up at? I wasn't sure which one was you or we would have stopped to say hello. This was only our 2nd time out with our 5er so we spend some of our time tweaking what is stored where and organizing.
I have my son working on us an rv.net sign.

We are going to Seward also this weekend. Look for us in a Big Horn 5th Wheel and a big silver Dodge Megacab.
Stop by and say hello.

RE: Renting a MH in Alaska vs driving from Cal?

I don't know about the cost but your 5er is certainly not too big for up here. Our's is about 37' and we have no problem finding places to stay.

RE: 1st timers to Alaska

We take our 13 year old Chow with us everywhere we camp and have never had a problem with wildlife. I suggest keeping the dog on a leash. We did have some trouble this winter with wolves attacking dogs that were not on leashes out on trails nearer to Anchorage and Fairbanks. Just keeping your eyes open and being alert to your surroundings is very important

RE: Counting the Days!!!

If I had known Hook promised to help out, I would have called him yesterday. Our temp up here is still comfortable. Right now at 8:30 AM it is 41 degrees. Snow is melting already so that is good. We should be able to still go out camping on mother's day weekend.

RE: Anchorage Campground

I agree with AK traveler. I would not stay in a campground in Anchorage except one of the military campgrounds on the base. If you notice on the website for Golden Nugget they do not show any of the sites except in the background. The RV park is right across the street from a run-down mobile home court.

RE: Is it comfy on the road inside a slide-out RV?

In our new Big Horn, we are able to access all of our trailer with the slides in. It is narrow where the kitchen counter comes close to the table but not impassable. Everything in the kitchen is accessible. Only cabinets or drawers we cant get into are the dresser drawers in the bathroom.

RE: Are reservations a must when traveling to Alaska?

I would make reservations at Denali if you want to camp in the park campgrounds. They fill up quickly. I know that when we were there last July there was a waiting list for people wanting to stay. We made our reservations for Denali in January.

RE: Counting the Days!!!

LOVE wasn't exactly the way I described my feelings for the snow this morning after dh and son and I spent about 2 hours shoveling.:M We did measure before shoveling and it measured 22 inches since 9 AM yesterday. Now I wish I had a hot tub to soak in.
